Friday Fun Day - Crambo aka Bouts Rimés - Scooting

Bouts Rimés means "rhymed ends" in French and is a game or challenge where one person (me) makes a list of rhymed words and others (you) write the lines that end with those rhymes, in the same order in which they were given. It was known as Crambo in English and was quite popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Will you help me bring back this hip historical habit?

The Making of Los Caped Barbarinos

Shelly Seuss and Flying Flower
by Rachel Hoyt

I was running down a dream
when a new one flew to me:
a scooter gang making a scene
with capes flapping wild and free -

We smile at the joy and laughter around
(whether it flies with or at us)
and seek to enhance that which surrounds
the heaven where two wheels took us.

I whispered out my dream
to a flower flying by -
It echoed like a scream,
shot my dream across the sky -

"Shelly Seuss shall ride," said the stars,
"and she will wear a cape -
With Flying Flower you'll surprise cars
and make bystanders gape."

Now we scoot down our dream
following its scent beyond the breeze,
attempting to emit a glee beam,
while giving the world a cape tease.

Wacky Word Wednesday - Doyenne

Doyenne
(doi en)

by Rachel Hoyt

You wouldn't use 'doyenne'
To describe important men,
Just  the highest ranked women,
Queens of the crop - doyennes.

Thursday Thoughts - On Bitcoins

Bitman's Tree
by Rachel Hoyt

image by idea go via freedigitalphotos.net

For generations, Bitman males
Had dreamt of growing cash -
Great great grandpa wrote down his fails
And how his pa was rash
To think that planting a few coins
Could sprout unbridled wealth -
(He tested ways to nurture loins
And what brings money health.)
He never did make money trees
Or his son after him,
But little Billy Bitman, (geez!)
His vision was less slim -
"Bits of data around the world
Are like rare gems," he thought.
Soon a new type of coin unfurled,
Not seen, but often bought -
It floated around time and space
With more, then less, value,
No one could see the tree's home base,
But still his dream came true -
A calculation burst a seed
And people bought its leaves,
Fertilized with secrets and greed,
It grew cash one perceives.

Bitcoins (to some) are the latest, greatest thing,
but I believe its an imaginary value they bring.

Sonder is frame of view to ponder -
Belief that we individually wander,
Spin, fall, and float through the wild blue yonder,
Uniquely experience life - sonder.

Thursday Thoughts - On Feeling Young and Growing Old

Still At Her Sill
by Rachel Hoyt

She said flowers just attract bees
And flung them "where they fly".
She told me running hurts your knees
As two grayed gents jogged by.
She said biking was for young things,
Not folks who lost their poise.
She told me throats hurt when one sings,
And yard work is for boys.
She said hiking is perilous -
One might roll down a hill.
She sat her whole life querulous
'Bout all seen from her sill.

Solipsistic

Someone solipsistic
Is beyond narcissistic,
Egocentrically opportunistic,
And selfishly simplistic -
The solipsistic....

Thursday Thoughts - Smart Phone Apps and Technological Advances

The Workey Jerkey
by Rachel Hoyt

image by Victor Habbick via freedigitalphotos.net

You put a gadget in,
You pull part of a job out,
You put a gadget in,
Then you shake the gigs about -

You do the Workey Jerkey
As the world spins round and round -
That's what work's all about!

You put some software in,
You pull more humans out,
You put more software in,
Crunch and shake brain cells about -

You do the Workey Jerkey
As the world spins round and round -
That's what work's all about!

You put a robot in,
You take multiple jobs out,
You put a robot in,
The economy swings about -

You do the Workey Jerkey
As the world spins round and round -
That's what work's all about!

We can't be inconvenienced to diagnose our ills,
And desire same day delivery to increase our shopping thrills,
Then wonder why we have no money to pay the bills.
How do we expect to fix the recession
if robots are required for our world's progression?

Wacky Word Wednesday - Effrontery

Effrontery
(eff rhunt er ee)

by Rachel Hoyt

An act of effrontery
Has ample audacity,
Resembles skulduggery,
Is often perfunctory,
And does not intentionally
Inhibit your joy selfishly -
