A Poem Which Ponders, Should We Subsidize Hollywood?

Hollywood Heart
by Rachel Hoyt

Comfortable, yet not happy,
is hard to tolerate -
filled with dreams of a plush fate
that would yield greater glee.

Miserable, in poverty,
one rides the waves that come -
filled with dreams that some someone
could see what one could be.

When spring rain falls on the land
and blossoms rare treasures,
Comfortable foresees quicksand
and bumps to dodge ahead,
Miserable just bows his head
and prays for simple pleasures.

Every time it rains, a choice
falls into hands that could
hand out the gifts as they should,
listen to their inner voice,
or believe that none will rejoice
no matter where the fruits fall
and seek to distract one and all
with shows that mold every soul's voice.

This poem responds to news that Hollywood subidies
are growing while the poor receive no remedies.

How Do You Respond to Hateful Comments?

Hate Loves Me
by Rachel Hoyt

How can hate love me?  Let me shout the ways.
It loves me with its digs and blows and spite -
Fire my soul needs to achieve new heights,
for the roots of great with optimal grace.
Hate loves me for accepting everyday's
imbalance, the dark that tries to squash light.
Hate loves me rashly, as men show their might.
Hate loves me brashly, as they transpose praise.
Hate loves me with a passion rarely used,
on my high horse, and with heartfelt faith.
Hate loves me with a love I tried to lose
with my breakups - Hate loves me just the same,
Then, now, and forever! - and, if fate choose,
hate's love shall help propel me into fame.

This poem is dedicated to one hateful edhat user
who helps fuel my purpose by calling me a loser.

I find that I can't avoid negative criticism
and I must handle it with pure optimism.

Crambo at the Pub - Who's Driving?

Who's Driving?
by Rachel Hoyt

Who needs attention in order to drive?
Cars are made to protect what's inside -

With so many lights they could blind the night,
Blinkers for when direction's not implied,
Cushions and heat in the seat to assuage,
As gospel radio spouts, "You are saved!"

Every trip that it has made
is splattered all over its face.

It doesn't need a mechanic or nurse
or the blessing of the church
to avoid a smattering of worse,
but perhaps all the tricks in your purse -

You can sit and watch, but not from the back.
Every shell needs a driver and that's that.

Feeling Powerless Literally Increases the Weight of the World

The Weight of Personality
by Rachel Hoyt

Perhaps the womb forgot to sow
Energy, the ability to see, breath
Rogue strength of the yeti
Snatched greatness lingering -
Or maybe somehow, right now, woah
Nabbed your whim, thatched a nest
And sat on your gusto.
Life finds strife under every leaf
If driving with doubt in tow
Together forever as two
Inside there's abiding powe
Ever ready to proudly sail
Should your mind bind dread.

A new study shows that the weight of the world rests
on the same shoulders where powerlessness nests.

We Can Export the Smoke Stacks But Smog's Still on Our Backs

Heirs of Air
by Rachel Hoyt

The air is fair.
Nowhere can bear
A snare to care.
What's here goes there.
What's near we share.
What's bare can pair.
All tears will wear.
We're heirs of air.

is a problem that requires a global solution.
