Barbie

Her lips can quip
a wiser voice
without a drip
of conscious choice.
Her hair can snare
a love for manes
with curves that dare
one to stay sane.
Her waist can waste
a young girls dreams,
trade in a trade
for frills and seams.

A new study says that playing with any Barbie
can limit the career choices a young girl sees.
yes, the ideal plastic body type...
ReplyDeletewill ruin plenty a girl...
i never played with barbie...ha
I wasn't allowed to play with Barbie... and am rather glad. :)
DeleteOh that's why I ended up in a working in a supermarket ;-)
ReplyDeleteHehe. Absolutely! :P
DeleteWell said .... and so true.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteI didn't play with dolls. I played with action figures.
ReplyDeleteDid you save the world or play the evil villain? :P
DeleteAnd, now, for something completely different...I loved my Barbie dolls--my sister and I played with them for hours, and hours. My parents tried to be politically correct and not get me one, but I was relentless and actually one of my favorite Christmas memories was the surprise that they did get me a Barbie. Do I think her unrealistic proportions cause a lot of body image issues...absolutely. (I have plenty, though I think more from beauty, fitness mags than Barbies...) Do I regret the hours of fun that my sister and I had together creating outfits, stories and playing? absolutely...not :-) And I majored in science and then became an attorney--there are exceptions to every study...I guess, and I was never any good at "normal"...lol! Very good poem :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the poem! There are definitely exceptions to every rule and I'm glad you're one of them. :)
