Thursday Thoughts - Phantom Vibrations

Vibeadonna Syndrome
by Rachel Hoyt

Last night, I felt a phantom vibe,
Tingle my leg, tickle my hide.
It buzzed right through me all night long -
Buzz, buzz - a tweet? text? email? WRONG!
All night long, phantom vibes like gongs:
What if Susie tweeted 'bout a party?
What if Lucy's 'liking' ev'ry post by Benji?
What if Hailey Hollywood fumbled again?
What if I miss pictures of cats sexy men?
What if my friends start to think I am boring?
What if I lose part of my following?
What if I need to change my profile picture?
What if words were blabbed that deserve my stricture?
What if this phantom vibe causes a twitch?
What if it also starts to make me itch?
What if the vibes become phantom thoughts?
What if I acted on whatifs and whatnots?
What if I put my cell phone down on the shelf?
What if I try being happy, all by myself?

I believed those last wise whatifs,
And briefly felt their peaceful bliss,
'Til Tammy came to say that Shelly and Shelby,
Were breaking up on Twitter! That I had to see.

Book Review - Every Thing On It by Shel Silverstein

(click to buy on Amazon)

Shel Silverstein deserves a rave rhyme review
for his latest posthumous message to you.
(In case you didn’t know, this is number two.
Runny Babbit came out after his death too.)
This poetry compilation is 100% Shel
and retains his beloved style quite well.
Through kids, creatures, animals and “things”,
many further messages he brings.
He finally tells us why people write rhymes
and that happy endings don’t exist  - just good times.
He writes of a new diet, though I don’t think I’ll try it,
and of flamingos stealing things in hopes we’ll buy it.
He illustrates with words the power of please
and why garlic breath brings many to their knees.
It even has a bit of romance and a fantasy ball game.
As expected, Shel’s way of saying goodbye is anything but plain.

Celebrating Shel Silverstein

Image by Salvatore Vuono via freedigitalphotos.net

He was a rhymer of flax-golden tales,
'bout things as silly as biting your nails
but when he was young he dreamt of baseball
not writing for children - no, not at all.

He drew cartoons to "Take Ten" in the war.
When he got back, for Playboy he drew more.
He wrote and drew for them quite a long time,
then wrote for kids.  No one cared.  It was fine.

He was a singer and writer of songs,
a dreamer of dreams where rights reverse wrongs,
a recluse rock star who shared his talent,
with those who knew his lyrics were valiant.

He was and is and he always will be
a source of much inspiration for me.
Though not alive to celebrate today,
I'd like to wish Shel a Happy Birthday.

Six Word Sunday - Runny Babbit Tweet

Runny Babbit Book and Abridged CD

Duckling bown,
furing crown,
do-do's town.

This 6WS tweet was inspired by Shel Silverstein's billy sook, Runny Babbit. If you know the book (or are just really smart) then you will know what my poem says. And yes... I did say do-do.  Sorta.  Hehe.
