Living Like Sea Glass

Living Like Sea Glass
by Rachel Hoyt

Right now I live between the waves
Of hope and desperation,
Biding my time amongst the grime;
Dreaming of destination.

My edges are still a bit rough,
Some surfaces unpolished.
I feel as if I've had enough,
Like hope's all but abolished.

But, sometimes, in between the waves,
I catch a glimpse of light -
A sign that timing is divine;
Of nature's perfect sight.

I know someday a storm will come
To push me to the surface
And I'll shine underneath the sun
With perfectly imperfect purpose.
