Thursday Thoughts - Knights and Chivalry

I wish I could give you a kiss on the cheek - a peck.
At a time when single gals everywhere wonder
if their dreams for a knight in shining armor have gone asunder,
alone you ride as a symbol of our dreams,
stitching our hopes together at the seams.

What will you do when your quest is complete?
I know you'll still behave chivalrous and sweet,
but will you get a so called 'real job'
or become the world's latest heart throb?
You could keep riding and test my nation's hospitality
but I'm not sure that the U.S. would be as kind to thee.

Your first challenge would be sharing the road
Next you would have to find a place with a yard
where your horse could rest (which could be hard).
The homeless shelters don't allow animals to stay
and most homeowners don't have barns where he could lay.

I understand if you don't want to gallop on down
and will try not to change my smile to a frown.
You are certainly doing your share to show you care
if the world is kind, compassionate and fair.
The ingenuitive scrappers here are more selfish
and yet they too are praised for what they accomplish.

May your quest remain noble and many copy your style!

Sincerely,

Rachel Hoyt

  1. 6% of drivers are sadistic animal killers? That makes a lot of sense. It fits right in with the fact that at least 6% of people seem like psychotic jerks.

    1. You really think the 6% part is right? Perhaps it is the fact that I recently started driving a scooter that makes me think the number is higher. :P

    2. In all seriousness, 6% sounds about right. I mean, a lot of people are jerks, and we all have our moments that we're not too proud of. But going OUT OF YOUR WAY to hit animals on the road!? That takes a special kind of messed up. About 6% of the people I've met are like that. That sounds right.

    3. I'm just messing with you. I'm supposed to pretend they are all trying to kill me to stay safe. :) I have seen some very nice people too... two of whom waved to me to give up their right of way and let me turn first at busy shopping center/street intersections. I send smiles and mental thank yous to every driver who shows me courtesy on the road.

    4. (I wave when I can, but usually keep my hands on the handlebars and stick with smiling and nodding. :)

    1. You mean the part about it being dead? Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to hold out hope for a bit...

  5. Dear Rachel,
You have such a creative mind. You have me thinking if I was Knight...I would still pick for the prettiest flowers for you which would be an honor for me(smile).

  8. Love the poem and the story behind the poem, what an awesome thing to do. I'm definitely inspired to be more chivalrous, though I don't have a horse I could always make do with two halves of a coconut like in the Monty Python film :P
