The Forty Hour Work Week Powers The Economy

Economy Loop
by Rachel Hoyt

If you designed your life,
You would want to work less,
From that we'd all feel strife,
Progress would be a mess,

If you got to work less,
You might not spend so much,
Progress would be a mess,
Indulgence not your crutch,

If you don't spend as much,
Your joys won't be the same,
Indulgence not your crutch,
Balance in life your game,

Your joys won't be the same,
With time you might seek health,
Balance in life your game,
Your gain would slash all wealth,

With time you might seek health,
Or actually read a book,
Your gain would slash all wealth,
Your self-control the crook,

If you rest or read books,
All lives would feel more strife,
Self-control is the crook,
So we designed your life.

Dream, Play, and Wander - It's Good For Your Mind

Dream, Play, Wander
by Rachel Hoyt

In dreams are pearls
that want to float,
find the surface
jump the moat -

Skipping and twirls
mix up the mind,
reveal new purpose,
help truth unwind -

Fantasizing
of quandaries and quests
builds bravery
for future tests -

Wandering, surmising,
one wonders anew,
sails somewhere savory,
where wishes break through.

Friday Fun Day - Crambo aka Bouts Rimés - Spider

Bouts Rimés means "rhymed ends" in French and is a game or challenge where one person (me) makes a list of rhymed words and others (you) write the lines that end with those rhymes, in the same order in which they were given. It was known as Crambo in English and was quite popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Will you help me bring back this hip historical habit?

There will be no winner. This is just for fun
and the joy of rhyming a smile for everyone.

Charging for Visibility on the Internet

We Coin Charge
by Rachel Hoyt

You'll still be in control,
So long as you have money -
It's just a little toll,
Nothing remotely funny -
We just want to make friends
With those who can pay most -
Coins transform means into ends,
In freedom visions coast.

Verizon wants to limit the internet
to those who will pay for the visibility they'll get.

Wacky Word Wednesday - Dern

Dern
by Rachel Hoyt

image by Master isolated images via freedigitalphotos.net

To learn someone's dern,
First trust must be earned,
Then dark secrets are learned,
Which may lead you to yearn,
To un-know what you learned,
Return secrets earned,
Regain mystery, the dern.

Every week I rhyme and define a new wacky word.
Come on over to indulge your inner nerd.
And, please let me know of any weird words you've heard.

I'm sorry for the lack of notice, but I've decided to quit
posting wacky word rhymes here for a bit.
I'm pondering compiling these (and more) poetic definitions
into one of my very first book submissions.

Prison Profits Preach Profoundly

Profit Tear
by Rachel Hoyt

How dare you ask to use the phone
without paying an ear?
How dare you not eat ground up bone
or road kill a-la-tear?
How dare you demand medicine
to treat your karmic ails?
How dare you let my profits thin
when profiteers prevail?
How dare you rehabilitate
while paying for your sin?
How dare you dream country or state
would let human rights win?

An article about prisons ruled by profits,
led to this poem of ironic bits.

Wacky Word Wednesday - Polysemous

Polysemous

Something polysemous
Means many things to us -
Like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious -
An utterance most polysemous.
