Thursday Thoughts - On Feeling Young and Growing Old

Still At Her Sill
by Rachel Hoyt

She said flowers just attract bees
And flung them "where they fly".
She told me running hurts your knees
As two grayed gents jogged by.
She said biking was for young things,
Not folks who lost their poise.
She told me throats hurt when one sings,
And yard work is for boys.
She said hiking is perilous -
One might roll down a hill.
She sat her whole life querulous
'Bout all seen from her sill.

  1. My sister keeps talking about how 'old' she is. I wish she's stop. She's only a year older than me and I don't feel old at all. I just feel fat. LOL

    1. My twin enjoys pointing out my laugh lines. I tell her I'll try to be less happy! :)

    2. Sounds like my boss, "Be less happy!"
I didn't know you were a twin. Two of my sisters are twins.

    3. I didn't know you had twin sisters. :) I'm a fraternal twin who looks a lot like an identical twin...

  2. I'm aged but not 'old'. I do physical exercise around four days a week but exercise my mind many hours a day every day.

    I enjoyed this piece.

    Gracias

    1. We definitely need both kinds of exercise to stay youthful and alert. I need more of that physical exercise thing you speak of... :)

  3. Excellent poem Rachel! I read that study too. And its clear to me from what I hear and see-its all in your mind whether you're youthful or elderly :-) Really interesting program on PBS you can get all the exercise you need by doing high intensity interval training. Three days a week, do a 5 minute workout--20 seconds as fast as you can, 40 second rest, repeat. Throw in some weight training a little stretching and you're all set:-) --yea, nutrition and exercise is my hobby...studies show that aerobic exercise also helps keep your brain young!

    1. I was excited this study helped justify my opinion. LOL. I have always felt it was true. I try to keep an active lifestyle - walking to run errands, etc. - but I haven't been doing the best at it lately... and I don't even want to talk about my nutrition the past few weeks... :P

  4. PS I think you're the only one who will guess the word I left out in my "Feline the Blank" poem....
