Why Can't People See Facts When They're Right in Front of Their Face?

Face the Facts

Facts slap your face,
Fill hidden space,
Upset the calm,
Itch fingers and palm,
Create comments,
Shake up one's sense,
Tear out the heart,
Make wisdom part,
Kick learning off track,
Brew up a dense fog,
Breed bumps on a log -
For facts to get through,
You should ignore you.

  1. Rachel: a breath of fresh air you are! I have been dealing with two family members for years whose critical thinking skills are marginal. Been blamed for a lot of s--t which never came even close to the TRUTH. Erroneous assumptions and insinuations have torn our family apart.

Facts? I speak as an employer, friend and volunteer. The best we can do is chil, tap dance a bit and wait for the facts and then evaluate based on shared wisdom.

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem! It is definitely best to be patient until you know the facts. No one likes being misjudged.

  2. "Facts don't matter any more,
They make them up just to have their war
Science is fiction, in money they trust
It's its the darkest before the Light,
    The dawn must be near
Doesn't matter who's left or right
    They play your fear

It's all the same in a topsy turvy world
Where down is up and up is down
And the media spins it round and round...."

    1. Great poem! There are definitely ways to present only the 'facts' one likes. You have to check who did a study and if there are other studies which had similar conclusions before you can trust them.

  4. ha. we would rather deny th facts and invent our own reality...one that fits our box and leaves us in blissful peace.....one that supports our illusion

  5. Yes, too many jump to conclusions w/out all the facts.

    1. I suppose facts are merely that which hasn't yet been proven untrue... possibly due to inadequate technology, possibly due to factors previously ignored... but things proven repeatedly by science are facts to me (unless the studies were sponsored by the corporations they stood to benefit).

    1. At least in the U.S., companies and individuals can and do work their way around the facts... to varying degrees of success. Hehe.

  8. A thought-provoking look at facts! Makes me think which ones we should concentrate on and which ones we should ignore.

  10. Hi Rachel--great poem, and topic--after awhile you start wondering what are the facts anyway? Huge bit of irony there that a scientific mag would close comments...sheesh.

Rhyming or not, I would like a lot to hear the thoughts my words brought...
