Ticky Tacky vs Naughty and Wacky

and raw milk have in common?
Each one has recent news bites
that smell a little rotten.

Obama promised them all
his focus would be elsewhere,
but someone cancelled the stall
to enforce what they thought fair.

Cheered on to pass more judgment
on the private lives of some
and how their spare time is spent.
With tolerance, they are done.

Down with raw milk advocates
and all those who like to smoke pot!
Same sex marriage candidates?
We'll let you get married now... not!

Some like the ticky tacky
boxes on the hillside where they
avoid naughty and wacky,
hiding their bold selves away.

I still find myself longing
for that true sense of freedom;
that real sense of belonging;
a place where we all have fun.

  1. Good luck with that
    As always their promises fall flat
    They'll say whatever they can to get your vote
    Then when elected sing a different note.

  2. Promises are broken all the time....sigh!

  3. Good observation. I, too, was upset about the gay rights and marijuana promises broken. I must have missed the milk thing, though :)

  4. Wouldn't it be just grand, if what they promised actually happened?

    They tell us what we want to hear, then later twist their words around.

  5. Nice blog about promises!Promises are done for breaking.

  6. @Pat - Yes, I expect this behavior from them, but still hope to be surprised. :)

    @ayala - Sigh is right!

    @Doug - I'm surprised there isn't more raw milk madness near you. You're in cow country, aren't you?

    @Debbie - It WOULD be grand if people did what they promised! :)

    @Remedies - Thanks. :)

  7. So basically our credit's in the crapper,
    and our economy is circling the drain,
    but the government's still wasting its time,
    looking for more freedoms to restrain.

  10. @jennifaye - Thanks. I saw some raw milk at the store yesterday and chuckled. It's liked the health food store is a drug dealer. :)

    @Neni - Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    @Heaven - True, I would not consider this a totally light and smiley post. I hope it still brought smiles though.

    @Brian - I keep trying to tell myself to just expect this stuff from politicians, be it these ones or the next ones we elect, but... well it still irks me! :)

  15. Kudo's for writing what you really think and not worrying about what others will say! (And you said a mouth full, I have to agree with ya!) Politics is not easy to share in a creative way without the fear of stepping on tows but I think you did a marvelous job!

  16. Is there such a thing as honest politicians??? I've never seen a promise kept yet when it comes to politics. Maybe someday! I loved how you didn't hold back and said what you felt. Good job!

  17. What? Were they going to legalize pot? Missed all that, the raw milk too.

    I guess it's up to us to make our own fun.

    Party time?

  18. Those "promises" are hogwash. Perfectly penned.

  19. @Amanda - Thanks so much for your comment. It means a lot to me that you think I skillfully presented this controversial opinion. :)

    @Mindy - Yeah... I'm really not sure there are any honest politicians.

    @Jannie - In California, pot has been legalized and supposedly the Feds were going to stop interfering. That has not what I saw in my town... though it has been better recently.

    @Laurie - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I love reading the words "perfectly penned" in my comments section. :)

  21. Really, the opening and closing stanzas couldn't have been any more perfect! And everything in between made the picture COMPLETE!

    You rock, Rachel!! How you combine current affairs with your amazing rhymes is quite a wonder to me! Hats off to you, my dear!! :)

  22. Seems little enough to ask for, doesn't it? A greta definition of freedom, and a beguilingly simple exposition!
