Something Saved
by Rachel Hoyt
(The item in this abstract photo is an antique bowl made with the item described in the riddle.
Can you guess what my great great uncle chose to save though it would seem to be worth piddle?
Rumored to have been invented to protect
white gloves of fair maidens (who's opinions they'd usually neglect).
At the time, the fine thing it adorned
wasn't an enjoyment for which people were scorned.

Friday Photo
Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,
or perhaps a photo experiment with more purposeful
intent,
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.
After
the answer is guessed, I will post a second, non-abstract photo,
and just in
case you wanted to know,
the first
is not a photoshopped version of the second -
they're shot using different techniques that to me
beckon.
This week I did not have a riddle solving star
who could figure out the answer was the band/label on a cigar.
Looks like something, something crocheted.
ReplyDeleteIt is not crocheted or made with yarn... but thanks for being the first guesser. :)
DeleteDear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
I don't have the foggiest idea, but I'm getting my guess in before I go to work. Looks like something weaved...weaved straw perhaps? I'll be checking back throughout the day for the answer. Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for taking a guess Andy! It is not weaved straw, but there are many of the item layered in a way that sort of makes them look weaved. :)
Deletesound obvious but a glove box ?
ReplyDeleteNot a glove box.... :o/
DeleteADDITIONAL CLUE #1 - The item in question was once enjoyed by many types as a mini luxury, now many associate it with a particular ethnicity...
ReplyDeleteGoodness - no clue at all. :(
ReplyDeleteOne of those bowls that you make?
ReplyDeleteI think maybe people aren't reading this clue underneath the photo? (The item in this abstract photo is an antique bowl made with the item described in the riddle. Can you guess what my great great uncle chose to save though it would seem to be worth piddle?) Yes, it is a bowl, but we are trying to guess what the bowl is made from... really it's a glass bowl lined with something (that's the thing we are guessing) then covered with felt to preserve it.
ReplyDeleteSo... LET'S GIVE ANOTHER CLUE... the answer is the label/tag for something people liked a lot back in the early 1900s... and still like a bit today.
Well, since no one's guessed yet, I'm just going to go all out with guess #2 and say salt?
ReplyDeleteNo, not salt...
ReplyDeleteArrrgghh! Missed it again!
ReplyDeleteMy Fridays have been complicated lately.
Actually, the answer still hasn't been guessed... :o/
DeleteIt has to be something that bends easily to form a shape. Is it made from paper?
ReplyDeleteWell... yes, sort of. I already stated above that the bowl is made with the labels for a thing... but was hoping someone might guess what the thing is.
DeleteAre they like those stamps people use to get all over their luggage? I don't know what they're called. You used to see them in cartoons, signifying that someone was well traveled.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even close, am I?
That is close... you probably wrote this guess while I was inserting the answer picture. I had already stataed it was a label. I was trying to get people to guess cigar. I must have really confused everyone with the clues though, because we didn't get very close.
DeleteIn others words, you could say, I was close...but no cigar? Eh? Eh?
Delete[crickets chirping]
Is this thing on?
LOL. You made me giggle. :-)
DeleteDear Rachel,
ReplyDeleteWell I don't smoke, so I guess that explains why I didn't get it! Thanks for another teaser. Can't wait to see what you come up with again next week. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
I think I should stick to modern items from now on. Everyone seemed lost on this one. :) Thanks for encouraging me to keep going! :)
