Friday Photo Fun - Something Adorned

Something Adorned
by Rachel Hoyt

A symbol of life, hope and strength,
Something I've adorned at length,
A treasure trove with open air,
Filled with whips we women wear.

Friday Photo Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,
or perhaps a photo experiment with more purposeful intent,
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.

After the answer is guessed, I will post a second, non-abstract photo...
and just in case you wanted to know,
the first is not a photoshopped version of the second -

they're shot using different techniques that to me beckon.

M. James has solved this difficult riddle.
It's a jewelry tree. His brain is fit as a fiddle!

Friday Photo Fun - Something Pretty

Something Pretty
by Rachel Hoyt

A work of art that's carefully plotted,
Shaded, colored, lined, and dotted,
An image to guide our journey,
These days, they're mostly just, "Pretty."

Both Jody and Jeff unjumbled my riddle
and realized a map was the pretty thing that looked like diddle.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Golden

Something Golden
by Rachel Hoyt

Not male or female,
Does not have a tail,
Peeks from up high
at the passers by...

Jeffrey persisted (via Facebook) all day long
and finally guessed one of the answers that wasn't wrong:

Cherub, Putto, Angel, or Cupid

Friday Photo Fun - Something Draped

Something Draped
by Rachel Hoyt

A fabulous costume accessory,
that's been loved for many a century,
makes the experience more sensory,
and creates a fluffy, happy memory.

Both Wanda and Andy easily knew
that Feather Boas were the item I abstractified for you.

I have decided to discontinue Friday Photo Fun.
For now, this will be the last and final one.
I hope you've enjoyed my rhyming riddle series!
Do come back for the wacky news... please?

Friday Photo Fun - Something Spinning

Something Spinning
by Rachel Hoyt

Uses less electricity than a single light
and saves even more when operated right.
In the late 1800s we invented this tool
to help our days feel fresh and cool.

Eric (Bubba) Alder guessed correctly that we can
keep our days fresh and cool with a ceiling fan.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Saved

Something Saved
by Rachel Hoyt

(The item in this abstract photo is an antique bowl made with the item described in the riddle.
Can you guess what my great great uncle chose to save though it would seem to be worth piddle?

Rumored to have been invented to protect
white gloves of fair maidens (who's opinions they'd usually neglect).
At the time, the fine thing it adorned
wasn't an enjoyment for which people were scorned.

who could figure out the answer was the band/label on a cigar.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Special

Something Special
by Rachel Hoyt

Recently discovered to be more closely related
to birds than previously shown through fossils we've dated.
Once used to make guitar picks,
Now, for other reasons, is hunted by hicks.

Wanda should not be sorry for knowing me well
and getting here early to guess correctly: turtle shell.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Antique

Something Antique
by Rachel Hoyt

Invented around the same time as instant coffee,
cellophane and Life Savers candy.
They're helpful for saving time and energy.
I use my modern one quite frequently.

So, what's in this snap I took at an antique store?
Can you guess which thing I couldn't ignore?

Bryan guessed the right answer was toaster.
He wins the right to be a boaster.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Plentiful

Something Plentiful
by Rachel Hoyt

Wild ones make one think of harm,
because sometimes they are short on charm,
though their transformational qualities are many.
For good or bad they grow aplenty.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Scrumptious

Something Scrumptious
by Rachel Hoyt

In ancient times, some slaves survived on this, water and bread.
Some said it cures drunkenness, overeating and sicknesses of tummy or head!
Currently China produces around 66% of the world's supply.
It's a member of the lily family often eaten by you and I.

So what is this thing that my senses find scrumptious?
Go ahead, take a guess.  Be presumptuous!

Wanda is on a rhyming riddle solving roll!
She solved this one so fast it makes me think I have a mole.

Answer:  Garlic

Friday Photo Fun - Something Orange

I grow to full body size rather young,
Don't have a human stomach or lungs,
Eat just about any food you'll give me,
And lots of it because I'm a piggy...

But I'm not a pig, so what am I?
Take a guess.  It's fun to try!

"Koy fish are orange," she said.

Friday Photo Fun - Something Swirled

Something Swirled
by Rachel Hoyt

Once thought to soothe throats -
A happily consumed medicine -
Now used to stir brews in hopes,
Childlike sweetness will sink in.

What was this thing I swirled in my shot?
I await the most clever guesses you've got.

Friday Photo Fun - A Beautiful Display

A Beautiful Display
by Rachel Hoyt

Many little somethings
piled into a sweet tower
along with those things
we should smell every hour.

In front lay three creations
from beloved children's toys.
Behind, tiers of colorful, sweet expectations,
to celebrate love's many joys.

So where was and what are the things in this display?
There are many right answers to be found today.

It's a Wedding Desert Display table!

Friday Photo Fun - Something Sparkly

Something Sparkly
by Rachel Hoyt

I would've seen my face if I'd looked,
But staring at the strings had me hooked,
A bit of seventies inspired decor,
To illuminate an arty wine store,
Similar things hang in some people's doorways,
Mostly during their college party phase.

So what is this abstract-ified decor?
I await your guesses, scoffs and more!

Friday Photo Fun - Something Cream

Something Cream
by Rachel Hoyt

From the Emerald Isle it came,
To bolster men to plow the plain.
It's less nutritious when cooked quick.
Some like it thin and others thick.

So, what is this cream thing?
I await the fun guesses you'll bring!

Something Multicolored

Sometimes suffers from split ends,
Popular with my hippie kid friends,
Play toys for both kids and adults,
In one job, they're the nuts and bolts!

Something Green

In tests of speed and spawn, it's a superhero.
Things it can't do?  Seems like zero.
It's tall and lean, environmentally clean,
And most of all, it's serene.

Something Sepia

One of those dangers that lurks everywhere,
Neglected, could still have been used if shown care,
Their colorization can be prevented with nail polish,
And supposedly the drink named for them is delish!

So, what is this Sepia thing?
I eagerly await the guesses you'll bring.

It's cold looking but also beautiful,
sometimes said to be too plentiful,
brought from South Africa to stabilize
U.S. beachfront railroad ties.

So, what is this thing I shot in nature?
I await your guesses... catch you later!

Friday Photo Fun: Tracer Lights

I'm a thing that hides from lights,
Not very active during days or nights,
Once a gift worthy of a King,
Sometimes seen at the fighting ring...

So, what is this thing
I captured amongst the tracer lights?
I hope at least one guess you'll bring
and that you won't give in to guessing frights.
