Poetry Prompt - Crambo aka Bouts Rimés

In honor of National Poetry Writing Month, I'm bringing back a Friday tradition.  Bouts Rimés means "rhymed ends" in French and is a game or challenge where one person (me) makes a list of rhymed words and others (you) write the lines that end with those rhymes, in the same order in which they were given. It was known as Crambo in English and was quite popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Will you help me bring back this hip historical habit?

There will be no winner. This is just for fun
and the joy of rhyming a smile for everyone.

  1. Here's my attempt to create something from my own prompt. As always, I promise I had no idea where I was going with these words when I chose the Crambo words...

    Every single part
    Of life's collage
Is the process of art -
    The clutter in the garage,
    The overgrowth out front,
    The idealized image,
The bold curves and the blunt -
    Savor the scrimmage.

    1. You always choose such interesting words.
Like how you crafted them into this poem.

    2. Thanks! I try to pick a word I've never rhymed from whatever pops into my head while looking at the image and then use anything that rhymes with that which seems out of the ordinary... and after I make the list, I mix it into a new order. I had NO idea how I would use scrimmage as an ending word, but decided it would be a good challenge. I like what you did with it!

  2. My neighbour friends all had a part,
to create a living room collage.
they hung so many works of 'art',
But now they sit in the garage.

    I'm not mean, I'm just up-front.
So I'll describe the awful image.
An eclectic nightmare, let's be blunt.
    Sensible as a K-5 Scrimmage.

Remember the show Trading Spaces? For some reason, these words made me think of those episodes where the traders hated what was done.

    1. I'm glad there are at least a few of us that want to play! I always love seeing what you come up with. Great poem. It brings to mind someone who lost their memory looking at an image of the accident that caused it.

  4. To be part of the collage
And build art in my garage
    To race in front
    Of my own image
    And stay blunt
    Throughout the scrimmage

Rhyming or not, I would like a lot to hear the thoughts my words brought...
