This weekend it
is going to rain ice cold spit.
Just one thousand feet up higher
snowflakes will possibly glitter the night sky.
Beachy winter's finally here, not just lurking nearby.

My poet friend, Eric "Bubba" Alder invented the above poetry form recently. It's called a Frost, named and created for his favorite poet, Robert Frost. Head on over to his blog to learn how to crate your own Frost. Or, perhaps you'd prefer to write a Frostic? One thing is for sure. Everyone wants a little frosting in their lives. Don't you agree?
I am also adding this poem to Poet's Rally Week 40. Come over and see!

Oh I want some coldness I really do!
ReplyDeletelovely piece Rachel
Cheers A
last post- my moment
Nice! I love the way you do the trick to your rhymes there..:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how much frosting I need in my life, but I sure could use some beachy weather.
ReplyDelete@Alejandro - Yep. I welcome the coldness here too! We've been having long foggy summers and strangely sunny january & february. This will feel more normal.
ReplyDelete@Jorie - Thanks! I don't know what trick I pulled, but I thank the rhymer DNA I inherited from my grandma. :)
@Doug - Yeah, you've probably had enough snow, but the frosting I speak of is in reference to the new poetry form. So... you want more frosting? Do ya? :)
I'm so ready for beachy weather. My pasty white body might disagree, but that's everyone else's problem. Don't look if it horrifies you. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful stuff, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteBe sure everybody knows that my kind of Frosting is fat-free and has no calories - but it's still tasty and fun!
I fill a 'chill' in here. Hmmm? 'pasty white' 'frosting', my preference is 'chocolate ice' but that's only because I'm a construct of 'latino' ethnicity. What this has to do with any of Rachel's lovely word frivolity, I don't know. All I know is that I love warm weather and chocolate ice cream. (Thank you very much!)
ReplyDeleteSnowflakes oooh how I wished Florida had snowflakes. Thanks for sharing some snowflakes :)
ReplyDeletemy moment

@Tricia - I would be glowing white if I lived where you do. I get some sun here, but remain pretty pale white too!
ReplyDelete@Eric - Writing this was such a yummy dessert last night. :) Fat free & calorie free... wooo hooooo!!!
@nene - You are so right. Chocolate frosting is the best. Though, I'm not sure it would look quite as pretty all over the mountain peaks. :)
@Jingle - Thanks for the awards! I'll be over to retreive them soon. xo
@Debbie - I know how you feel. I love the mild climate of living at the beach, but sometimes I want to see those seasons!!! :)
I meant 'feel a chill' not 'fill'. Brain freeze from the ice slurpy!
ReplyDeleteSmiling is natural -- inborn, perhaps --
ReplyDeleteBut rhyming is certainly NOT.
That's why, at ATLANSKI, in poetic scraps,
We call for the best that you got.
Its actualy sunny here today for a change,but your poem made me feel a little chill :)
ReplyDeleteI heard from a friend in Monterey that said they had snow for the first time since 76. Amazing. I hope you had some snowy, frosty days there to mix things up a bit. Thanks for the link to your friends blog. I'd like to learn the form.
ReplyDelete@Joey - thanks for visiting and mentioning Atlanski to me. That sound like the kind of site I'd like to see. :-)
ReplyDelete@baldychaz - We only got one day of cold rain here. Sadly, not near me did any snow appear. :-)
@Judy - I so hope you'll write a Frost. It was fun! Please leave me a comment when you're done writing one. :-)
Thanks, Rachel, for your enthusiastic response here and at Atlanski.
ReplyDeleteAtlas and I have been blogging for almost 6 years now -- the first 5 on separate blogs -- and we've long been dismayed at how FEW bloggers see fit to attempt a little creative FUN in the blogosphere.
We discovered, while we were running our individual blogs, that we both enjoyed humorous poetic "riffing"; and thus we were inspired to launch our collaborative effort.
But we've had little luck in finding others who feel comfortable playing our "game."
ALL, of course, are welcome at Atlanski; but witty versification is what really floats our boat! We're lookin' for what I suppose might be called a poetic JAM SESSION!
:D
@ Joey Planski - I definitely don't see many bloggers out there who share our style. I could be down to participate in a jam session (sometime) for a while. :)
ReplyDeleteI had to come back for another read!
ReplyDelete(I just can't resist this sweet Frosting! LOL!)
@Eric - so glad you think my frosting is that yummy!! :)
ReplyDeletelove love it,
ReplyDeletewhat a fun imagination ...
keep those humors coming..
Happy Rally.

Beachy winter only whets the appetite for warmth and tanning,
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the cold but the mounds of snow I'm banning.
ive never seen snow..in my life then on tv..i live in south africa so its the oe thing we dont get in our winters..
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've have enough snow for the season, this read leaves me refreshed.
ReplyDeleteloved the rhyming pattern of the last two lines. but the whole poem felt so refreshing to read...
ReplyDelete@Jingle - two "loves"! (*blushing*) Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Someone is Special - SMILES right back at you...
@Paulami - Thank you!
@lunawitch - I love when my words delight! :)
@Blaga - I'm glad you liked Eric's invention! I hope you'll give the form a try and make sure he gets to see it. :)
@Kim - We had quite a few days of 70 degree weather here but it has dropped back down to 50s and rainy. :) I like that we have both here.
@Dan - cute rhyme! I am certain there will be no mounds of snow here but I plan to go look for the "puddles". :) We actually have had near beach weather a bit inbetween the rainy cold. It's funny.
@Chim - I do hope you get to see the snow someday! I haven't spent much time in it myself because I've mostly lived in mild to warm climates... thus, I really LOVE it when the opportunity arises. :)
@sam373 - I'm glad it doesn't make you bitter! Too much snow can be quite a pisser!!! :)
@Alethea - I'm glad to hear you think the last two lines were a strong finish! :)
This form is in a peachy niche!
ReplyDeleteI like it, it made me smile. Thank you for sharing with me.
ReplyDeletelove the new form, your friend is very creative !!

@Di - As long as it's a happy icy feel... :)
@iambeingme - Thanks! I'm all about rhymes. :)
As I was reading your poem, I kept thinking that I'd seen it before somewhere. I'm glad you referenced the "Frost" because that's where I'd seen it! Deja vu! They're calling for snow here this weekend-ugh.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading, well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat write - though I think I've gotten a rather frightful case of frostbite sun burn from my winter's beach enough though!
ReplyDeletesnowflakes! wow! we dont get this in the tropics haha! here's mine.. http://fiveloaf.wordpress.com/2010/01/15/wedged/
ReplyDeleteEloquent, lyrical and beautiful. Great read. It's a hot summer where I am and this refreshing.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done! i felt the cold there hehe! claps!
ReplyDeletebtw, is this what they refer to as "tanka"?

" Perfect... "
@Ashish - Thanks for visiting!
ReplyDelete@Lola - Hehe. I hope the second read was just as good. :)
@Thoughts Not Lost - Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
@abthomas - Frostbite sunburn?! Ouch. I'd be in danger... I get sunburned sitting outside on my lunch break without sunscreen. LOL.
@fiveloaf - I still haven't seen any snowflakes (this year) either. Shoulda driven to the mountains... :)
@argentpoet - Thanks for the kind words! I'm blushing. :)
@cybermushroom - I curtsey to your clapping. Thanks! This poem form is a Frost, invented by a fellow blogger, Eric "Bubba" Alder. There is a link below the poem above where you can learn more. :)
Thank God, winter is over, more like bitchy winter, a great descriptive poem, nice one.
ReplyDeleteheat, heat.. thats all there is here, in India where I stay.. and your winter made it soothing.. loved it :) thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHere's My Poem For Poets Rally
Such a fun poem - I love snow!
ReplyDeleteHi. I just wanted you to know that I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. There’s no pressure to accept, but I think your poetry and blog are pretty special, and thought you deserved an award for all your effort! If you’ve already received this award, then pay no heed to this kudos. ;) Thanks and congratulations!
ReplyDelete@okoatokewa - LOL. Sorry you had a bitchy winter! Glad you've moved on to spring. :)
ReplyDelete@Vinay - Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, those of us who live in warm weather are blessed with sun, but we miss the soothing cool weather sometimes. :)
@debi - Thanks! I'm glad you found my words fun. :)
@Dragon Katlet - Thanks for the award! I have indeed received one already... two actually... However, I try not to ignore such kind kudos, but I couldn't find a post about it on your site where I could say thanks.
