Thursday Thoughts - Sweden Wants to Buy Your Trash

Recycling the Reign

Poor Mafia. Now Sweden is "the boss" -
The new lion in the trash tree of life,
Gobbling garbage, brewing energy sauce.

In a land where recycling is too rife
They use trash to provide a basic need,
Now the lack of trash is their only strife.

On others' overabundance they feed,
Assisting others but mostly themselves,
Though they agree the time will come to cede.

Still, who's to say that a man with good elves
Could not put a stop to their genius plan?
(Someone with very few books on their shelves.)

The Swede rising shows what you think, you can -
When ideas are on fire, put them near a fan.

This terza rima poem was inspired by the news that Sweden
is importing trash to burn to warm their people's dens.

    1. The Swedish statement said they wouldn't be able to do it forever. Burning the trash DOES produce toxins. It is only a temporary fix. You're a smart woman if your instincts told you that. :)

  3. Hey, if the Swedes are looking for extra garbage, they can drop by my house. I've got a couple of spare rooms that I could clear out that would keep their recycling program going into the next decade.

    1. Yeah, I imagine that invoked a BIG case of NIMBY syndrome. (For anyone who doesn't know... NIMBY is a real thing. It stands for, "Not In MY Back Yard!")

      :P

    3. Hehe. Glad I could teach you about NIMBY. It is used in many ways. I may or may not be the first to call it a syndrome. I didn't check, but it totally is. Dr. Spaceman would back me up on this. :P

  8. My best friend is a Swede. She would agree that they have mastered many things, including 'recycling.' I shall share your poem with her so that she can feel validated in her convictions! ;-)

    1. That is so great! I would love for a Swede to see my poem and I don't have any friends in that part of the world yet. :) I was definitely very impressed with what I read about their recycling program. VERY impressed. :)

  9. Funny ! I ran into trash-burning generators this summer in Switzerland for the first time. They too were importing trash from Austria.
