A Purrfect Valentine's Day
I've been single for many a Valentine's Day
and still find it a hard time to know what to say
when the question starts to echo in my brain,
that horrible one that can drive a gal insane,
"Why aren't you dating anyone?
What happened with that last one?"
This incessant brain chatter inevitably leads
to a see if anything online could fulfill my needs.
I'm told the options are constantly expanding
to keep up with what the public is demanding.
I peeked early this year at what's new and exciting,
but didn't really find anything intriguing or inviting.
I tried to learn new pick up lines through my phone,
in case I see any handsome foreign men all alone,
but learning to say "I like you" in four languages,
is proving harder than driving while making sandwiches.
I can do Spanish because I learned it years ago,
but learning a third, fourth and fifth? I don't know.
I found one truly fascinating new "dating" website
which I bet lots of Icelanders are searching tonight
to make sure that cute girl or guy they just met
isn't a familial relation that could cause regret.
(The same families have bred on that island for years.
This digital genealogy tree should help prevent our fears.)
Yet, my favorite thing I learned wasn't really about dating.
In fact, it could in a way prevent some future mating.
You see, I learned my cat's purr has super healing power,
and since she likes to cuddle with me hour after hour,
I'm now not quite so sad to spend V-Day with her,
because who hasn't once wished their Valentine could purr!

Love what you have done with your words Rachel. And...my Valentine does purr :)
ReplyDeleteOooohhh. Your man purrs? He's a keeper!!! LOL :)
DeleteRachel exactly my sentiments. NO Valentine, no date. But I have my Fudge, my pup to keep me warm that day and everyday. Loved this one.

Pups are great Valentine's too! I'm glad you have one to snuggle with you. :)
DeleteYou wit and rhyming skills really shine here! Bravo, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha! I'm so glad to hear you call it witty! I was just writing my usual silly. :)
DeletePurr-sonally, I prefer my dogs, but both felines and canines are much less trouble than men! Happy V Day to you!
ReplyDeleteDogs are definitely great. They make an excellent date! :)
DeleteThis is brilliant many a happy purrs to you :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, sweetie! Many happy purrs to you, from me! :)
Deleteawwww hope you find someone who likes cats ....thanks for the smiles x x
ReplyDeleteEven the "I don't like cats" guys seem to really enjoy my little sweetie. :) You're welcome for the smiles. Thanks for visiting me! :)
DeleteI hope you find one that purrs...he..he...I think Pat will like this rhyming gem ~
ReplyDeleteI think Pat will like it too! I'm shocked he wasn't here before you. :)
DeletePat was kind of slow, working on book number four at his show. But yes this was very much liked by him and the cat. As their purring beats most humans any time.
ReplyDeletePat is allowed to be slow... he can't neglect the show! :P xo
Deletesmiles...making the valentine purr is about the best one deserves...so when you do find that valentine make sure the cat he minds...
ReplyDeleteI will heed your advice kind sir. The kitty will make sure he's nice to her. :)
DeleteHa Ha Ha. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Sometimes I purr at my Valentines' ear to irritate him.
ReplyDeleteJoy always,
Susan
LOL. Your Valentine must not be a cat lover! :P Peace, love and joy to you too. :)
DeleteThe thought of Icelanders searching a dating website made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteI am certainly glad I don't need to worry about being too closely related to some cute guy I just met! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteHello Rachel.
ReplyDeleteLOL...the more I read your witty & wacky rhymes, the more I realize what a wicked sense of humor you have! Without a doubt, you are the QUEEN of rhyme! You brought a smile to my face with this one too. As for the purring...I do that a lot...in my poetry...my wife says I serenade the reader. When all else fails for Valentines, you could try "cat-dating". Not even sure if such a thing exists, but when it comes to love, anything & everything is possible (smile).
Thanks for sharing...purr on!
LOL. Cat dating?? I think you could be on to something! I can see the commercials now... "We agree you may never find the perfect man, but the perfect feline? You definitely can!"
DeleteAnd, I'm so glad you enjoy my sense of humor and rhymes so much. I would love to be known as the queen of rhyme! :) xo
I have 2 furry purring girls who just love spending time with me...here's to a purry day...As always...XOXOXOXOXO
ReplyDeleteThe purring cuddling cats are the best! Have a purry day and forget the rest! :) xoxoxo
DeleteI have my purring persons to help me through nearly every night of the year. Don't know where I would be or what I would do with out them. Brilliantly written I love your valentine story.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd do without my little gal either. It's nice to have someone who wants to hug you every day! :)
DeleteGood poem. Though if I were single and someone asked me why I wasn't dating, I'd probably ask them why they're so rude. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're a woman after my own heart! :) I have given out some pretty mean looks in response to that question and usually respond with something like, "You're right. I should have kept dating that guy who _____(insert horrible man behavior)_____. Then I wouldn't be alone." :)
DeleteGood for you... and her!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Hope you had a great Valentine's Day. :)
DeleteThanks, I don't feel quite as odd.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great V-Day booguloo. It's nice to see you. :)
