Friday Photo Fun - Something Swirled

Something Swirled
by Rachel Hoyt

Once thought to soothe throats -
A happily consumed medicine -
Now used to stir brews in hopes,
Childlike sweetness will sink in.

What was this thing I swirled in my shot?
I await the most clever guesses you've got.

Friday Photo Fun is when I share a randomly captured moment,
or perhaps a photo experiment with more purposeful intent,
then pair it with a rhyming riddle to exercise your mind
and teach you more weird facts to which you once were blind.

Congrats to Wanda Plain and Simple and Pat Hatt for the win!
You've just read my thoughts better than my twin!!

    Tea?

    1. No, this item could be used to stir your tea and is more modern.

  2. Hello.
Hmmm...let me see...ginger, but that's not sweet, more spicy hot, so I'll say cinnamon stick.

  3. No, but there was a jar of cinnamon sticks near by. Again, this is something modern... man made...

  4. peppermint stick? I don't know if that's modern OR man-made... probably not.

    1. No, but you're getting warmer since peppermint sticks are candy... :P

    1. Oooohhh. That sounds yummy, but no. This candy stirrer was sitting on a table full of coffee and tea items...

    1. LOL. Ok, I had to google it, but you are the closest answer so far! I could almost say you're right... kool aid CAN be used to make this candy. Care to be more specific? The ones in the picture were not made with Kool Aid. :)

    1. Hehe. Fun fact: The first person to tell me that whiskey trick was a devout Catholic nun. Happy Good Friday! Unfortunately, that is not the right answer for the photo. :)

Mr. Patt Hatt is very very very very close above. :)

    2. Fun Fact #2: My friend, Laura Raymond, was never allowed to come to my house again after a 12-year-old sleep-over party when my mom gave her a shot of whiskey to calm her cough -- haha!

    3. LOL. I'm guessing my parents may have felt the same as Laura's. Maybe not NEVER again, but they wouldn't have been happy. They should have met Sister Angela. She's awesome. :)

    1. Nope. As stated above, this type of candy can be made from Kool Aid... or something else sweet as is the case for the candy in the picture. :)

      Thanks for making a 2nd guess! :)

  14. Too late, too late. :) Honey's still sweet though, and the rhyme's sweet as well.

    1. It does sort of look like they're stirring honey in the abstract. :) Thanks for visiting. I'm glad you like the rhyme.

  15. Well that was fun. I already saw the picture, but before that, I guessed by the words it might be a honeycomb, or honey of some kind... and by the picture some sort of flower... the jokes on me... it's CANDY! hehehhe

  16. Ah, late as always! But a great picture!

  17. Well I wanted to guess honey for a long time--and then I had trouble pulling rock candy out of my memory banks!

  20. Big smile, Rachel. I thought it looked like a dandelion gone to seed. Delightful.

  21. I'm going to guess lemon. Honey makes sense too, but perhaps it just isn't as feasible for a shot- I don't know, but love the pic, the way the glass came out is magnificent, as is the poem, which I see as a poem of trying something new, bringing back the charm of youth- really nice post. Thanks

    1. I'm glad you liked the post Fred, but I think you're confused or trying to mess with me...? The answer is the second picture - rock candy stir sticks. :)

  22. A riddle as poetry! I've done this before, and it can be such fun, sometimes more so for the poet than for the reader! Love it!
