Smiley Sociology Study #5 - NaPoWriMo 2011

In a moment of possible brief insanity,
potentially beneficial for humanity,
I decided to join in NaPoWriMo 2011,
hoping the rhymes flow from me like manna from heaven.

Since it will dominate my April, I thought I'd do
a Smiley Sociology Study of poetry theme too.
Normally I don't require the subject or style of poetry,
but this month, one or the other's what I want to see.

So link up your posts here for NaPoWriMo,
Or just write up one or share a poem you know...
Or perhaps you want to read and critique others?
Maybe some prose on the event is more your druthers?

However your poetry themed post is written,
if you'd link it up here, I'd really be smitten.
I'll do my best to reach some sociological conclusion
and to thank everyone properly for their link inclusion.

Non rhyming directions for the poetry challenged:

(1) Create a new post of or about poetry or link to one that was already on your blog.

(2) Please include a link back to the Smiley Sociology Study within your post to help spread the word about the link exchange.  The more "data" / posts I have to peruse, the better pseudo sociological results I can produce!

(3) copy the link for that post and paste link into Mister Linky below.
Please link directly to the post you want to share, not to your home page.

(4) leave a comment here to let me know you've posted a link

(5) read links left by others and tell them (nicely) what you think

  1. I've heard of nanowrimo, but never heard of napowrimo. Do you have to write 50,000 poems by the end of the month?

  2. LOL. No, not 50,000 poems (thank god!), just 30 poems in 30 days. I hadn't heard of NaPoWriMo either... until a few days ago. Hence the "possible moment of brief insanity". :)

  4. You've signed up to have your poetry put in my link exchange! Yeah! That and... to be lumped in a pile of data for some strange sociological analysis still TBD. :)

  6. What a great idea! And wonderful to be involved ~ not sure if mine our what you need, but there's plenty on both my sites. My other blog is at http://poeticdelusions.blogspot.com Thanks Rachel! : )

  7. @Jess - I look forward to coming up with the perfect Smiley Sociology prompt for sucking you in! :)

@Louise - Thanks for joining in! Your comment made me realize that I hadn't put the non-rhyming instructions in the post. (They have been added now.) I will be checking out all the links later and "fixing" any that were improperly linked to a home page.

I'm not totally sure what I "need" either. Basically, I read what you all submit and let it speak to me... teach me about what others are currently thinking about on my subject. :)

Thank you everyone for coming to check it out and/or participating! BIG SMILES

  8. I think I'll have to be the critic. As you know critics have no talent.

  9. I've linked my clumsy attempt at poetry above... Hopefully it does not embarrass the entire concept...:) Thanks as always for the fun opportunities!

  10. @A - We need a good critic! What fun would a poetry themed month be if no one gave us honest feedback? :)

@Paul - I loved your poetically narrated photo montage. An excellent contribution! Diversity is good.

I'll be happy to critique too if you need me:)

  12. Rachel, I love poetry as you know....
But may have to think first if I'm joining though.
I will attempt on writing one or two
And send them right here to you...

  14. Hey, Rachel! Thank you for this theme. I had forgotten about NaPoWriMo. I'm going to try it. When I link here, should I link to each and every post during the month or just the first time?

  15. @debra - critic posts are great because they spread the word about NaPoWriMo and spotlight poets. The more critics the better! :)

@jorie - I do hope you'll decide to join in! Your rhyming comment was a great way to begin! :)

@sweepyjean - let's say a maximum of 5 links per blogger. I look forward to reading your stuff! :)

  20. I'm not at all sure what you have in mind. But I've linked this poetry month related poem. :) Writing a poem a day is an interesting challenge for me. Good luck to all of us!

  21. Is something like this okay? (It's a limerick and a Limerick-Off contest post.) Or do you prefer something that's more strictly about writing poetry?

  25. Great minds think alike!
I was wondering if on my Link up page, I may tell people that you are doing one as well?

Suporting each other as poets in our endeavors is an important avocation for me.
So please let me know okay?
